Superlative example since 1996. From two ±50 year old parcels, majestic 2024 offers cooked pear, apple & pineapple array supported by masterly 20% new oak, 11 months. Core of stony minerality, touch of steel, drier than last, a class act with exciting prospects.

Stellar Cape Blend 2024 sets the bar high, with Chenin & 28.5% each Sauvignon & Colombard giving rich but sprightly, well-balanced mouthful. The gourmet breakfast-wine of champions: grapefruit, toast (11 months oak, 20% new, as 2023 (4.5 stars, 94 pts)) & marmalade, finishes with scrumptious pastry cream.
Beaumont Family Wines Raoul’s Red Blend 2023 (89 pts)
Super-smooth 2023 from mainly Syrah with six equally soft & spicy partners. Blackberry, leather & meat happily mingle together, backed by friendly tannins. Similar to 2022 (4.5 stars, 93 pts) with perhaps tad less gravitas.

Template for cool-climate Pinotage, 2023 has oodles of elegance, with fine tannins, blueberry & blackberry fruit, slight tweak of vanilla ex 25% new barrels, all adding up to sophisticated glassful. Also in 1.5L, like Raoul’s, dry Chenin, Hope & New Baby.
Beaumont Family Wines Far Side Mourvèdre 2022 (92 pts)
Winemaker has ‘dark love’ for this grape, 2022 showing bramble & prune with touch of raisin, richness without being heavy. Meaty tannins & gritty finish. While shade less exciting than 2021 (93 pts), still well worth seeking out (in 1.5L, too) for further improvement.

Eclectic blend Mourvèdre, Pinotage, Syrah with Cab Franc & Petit Verdot, 2021 mainly co-fermented, creating seamless integration of plums & firm tannins, lightened by attractive leafy notes. Worthy flagship red. Like 2020 (93 pts), pleasurable drinking now but a solid future as well.
Beaumont Family Wines Ariane Cabernet Franc 2023 (95 pts)
Purple-hued 2023 shows youthful charms in blackcurrant & dried thyme notes backed by chewy tannins & elegant oak, 18 months, 20% new. Balanced & discreet, doubtless plenty more drinking pleasure to come. House’s modest alcohol part of the joy.

Lively & direct 2024 uses whole bunch portion to good effect, giving purple colour, strawberry jam & tasty ‘gummy bear’ note. Soft tannins & peppery edge complete oh-so-juicy wine. Could be chilled but has enough heft to be taken seriously. Last was 2022 (4 stars, 89 pts).
