TIM ATKIN'S SOUTH AFRICAN SPECIAL REPORT
We are so pleased to share our results and tasting notes from the latest report. Tim Atkin has been a proud supporter and champion of the South African wine scene since 1990 and it was great to connect in person once again earlier this year. This is the fourth consecutive year our Hope Marguerite has scored 95 points from Tim. A wonderful achievement, especially when backed up by five consecutive 5 star reviews from Platter for our last five vintages.
Beaumont Hope Marguerite Chenin Blanc 2021 - 95 POINTS
Year in, year out, this exceptional Chenin Blanc vineyard delivers the goods. Planted in 1974 and 1978 on a combination of gravel, sand and shale, it produces a wine with wonderful energy, poise and focus. Lime, pear and green apple flavours are complemented by understated oak and a tangy, mouth-watering finish. 2023-30. (12.5%)
Beaumont New Baby 2020 - 93 POINTS
New Baby is not as young as it once was - the first vintage was the 2015 - but retains its novel appeal. Semillon-based in 2020, with the rest of the blend made up of a medley of Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Colombar and Chardonnay, this is a subtle, stony, racy white with no new oak, lime, green apple and grapefruit flavours and a hint of cinnamon sweetness. 2023-28. Bot River (12%)
Beaumont Jackals River Pinotage - 92 POINTS
"Not all Pinotage needs to punch your lights out," says Sebastian Beaumont, advice that he's taken to heart to make this elegant expression of the grape. Light yet serious, it has very subtle wood, raspberry and goji berry flavours and detailed, fine-grained tannins. 2023-28 (13%)
Beaumont Far Side Mourvèdre 2019 - 91 POINTS
"Like listening to Tom Waits for the first time" is Sebastian Beaumont's
accurate description of this Mourvèdre, which has a meaty, slightly rustic
charm that is all its own. Blood, tar, iodine and damson notes combine
on the palate underscored by firm, chewy tannins.
2023-28. (12.9%)
Beaumont Dangerfield Syrah - 91 POINTS
Firm and quite assertive, this Bot River Syrah comes from vines planted
on the Beaumont farm in 2001. Peppery, savoury and spice, with some
whole bunch perfume and structure, notes of blood, fig and mulberry
and impressive focus and structure. 2023-28 (13%)
